Log Cabin praises Bush's leadership against HIV and AIDS

Bold Initiative Will Make America the World Leader in Combating Global Epidemic

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Log Cabin Republicans praised President George W. Bush for his historic commitment to fight AIDS and HIV across the globe and in the United States.

President Bush, in his State of the Union address last evening, proposed the Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. This plan will commit $15 billion over the next five years, including $10 billion in new money to turn the tide against AIDS globally.

Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director Patrick Guerriero said, "President Bush called his new plan 'a work of mercy beyond all current international efforts.' We are pleased to see this President and America step up to combat this horrific plague."

The President also reaffirmed his commitment to combating HIV/AIDS in America as well. "We have confronted, and will continue to confront HIV/AIDS in our own country," the President said last night.

"With some new extremely qualified leaders in our community being appointed to the Presidents Advisory Council on HIV and AIDS and this new proposed Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, it is clear that the Bush Administration is fully committed to combating HIV/AIDS here and across the world. Log Cabin Republicans likewise are committed to lobby the Bush Administration and the Congress to insure this fight against HIV/AIDS is focused, fully funded and ultimately successful," Guerriero concluded.
