Washington, D.C. - With the Supreme Court of the United States set to hear arguments in landmark marriage equality cases next week, Log Cabin Republicans Chapter Leaders from across the country have joined to formally declare their support for the amicus brief in favor of national marriage equality filed by LCR's non-partisan sister think tank Liberty Education Forum.

The brief makes the specific argument that committed same-sex couples who live in states that do not recognize marriage equality have limitations on their constitutional right to freedom of speech, specifically as it pertains to political giving and campaign contributions. The brief was formally filed with the Supreme Court earlier this month.

"From coast to coast, Log Cabin Republicans Chapter Leaders are rising up to tell the Supreme Court that marriage equality can't wait," Liberty Education Forum and Log Cabin Republicans National Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo stated. "Our amicus brief in support of marriage equality makes a one-of-a-kind argument targeted specifically at the conservative wing of the Court, and I'm proud to see so many Log Cabin Republicans grassroots leaders lend their unique voices to this unique brief."

The brief was prepared by Craig Engle of Arent Fox LLP and Brett G. Kappel of Akerman LLP, and was made possible by the support of the Liberty Education Forum and Log Cabin Republicans National Boards of Directors, with special thanks to Leonard Olds and Hugh Rouse, and William Thibaut.
