Congress Must Show Leadership in Budget Debate

(Washington, DC) – Log Cabin Republicans call upon the United States Congress to show leadership on the federal budget by passing a continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown.

"Republicans on Capitol Hill have rolled up their sleeves to cut back the deficit, and passage of a continuing resolution is necessary at this time to keep up the momentum for fiscal change," said R. Clarke Cooper, Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director. "The American people are hungry for real solutions to our economic challenges. They recognize that significant spending cuts have to be made, and are ready to confront issues like entitlement reform. Speaker Boehner's leadership in the House is putting forward real plans to address the national debt, including Representative Paul Ryan's pro-growth budget roadmap. Unfortunately, there are some people in power who don't want Washington to change, who want to continue the patterns of spending and expansive government that have resulted in trillions dollars in deficits. These forces would like nothing more than a government shutdown to stall conservative momentum. If Republicans are wise, we won't let that happen. It's time to pass a continuing resolution, and keep working for real budget reform."
