More than $500,000 Raised in Georgia for Governor George W. Bush's Presidential Exploratory Committee

Wide Support Unprecedented at Such an Early Stage of Presidential Campaign

(ATLANTA, GA) – Texas Governor George W. Bush's Presidential Exploratory Committee has raised over half a million dollars in Georgia since it was formed in late March. On Saturday, proud parents former President and Mrs. George Bush were in Atlanta at an event packed with enthusiastic donors from across the state.

CEOs and other business and civic leaders of Georgia's largest and most well-known companies and institutions are supporting the Governor's candidacy with their time and contributions. Also on hand at the event were many young adult donors in their 20s, there not only to support Governor Bush's candidacy, but also to see the first President for whom many were first eligible to vote. Money raised to date in Georgia is the most ever raised by a candidate in the exploratory stage.

Jim Edenfield, chairman of the Georgia finance committee, said, "Our historic success to date in raising such a substantial amount of money in Georgia for a presidential exploratory committee illustrates the enthusiastic support Governor Bush has from all across the state. Governor Bush is a leader who unites people behind his record of accomplishment in Texas and his vision of where he will lead America with his compassionate conservatism."

Governor Bush also has the support of many elected officials, including: Congressmen Mac Collins and Charlie Norwood; Stan Wise, Chairman of the Public Service Commission; Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John Oxendine; School Superintendent Linda Schrenko; more than 17 state senators and more than 29 state representatives. This allows the Governor to tap into the officials' networks of supporters, volunteers and contributors.

In addition to Edenfeld, leadership of the Georgia campaign includes Fred Cooper, former president and vice chairman of the board of Flowers Industries, who serves as general chairman, and Eric Tanenblatt, senior vice president of Duffey Communications, who serves as state campaign chairman.
