Log Cabin Launches Multi-State Radio Ad Campaign

Calls on GOP to "Build an Inclusive Party That Can Win"; Calls Bush to Task for Pandering to Far Right and Hurting GOP Chances for Victory this Fall

(WASHINGTON, DC) – The nation's largest gay Republican organization will launch a multi-state radio ad campaign on March 4 calling on Republicans to "build an inclusive party that can win" against Vice President Al Gore (D) in November.

"We are speaking out along with the millions of Republican primary voters that have been shattering turnout records this year to cast their votes against exclusionary politics and in favor of building an inclusive Republican Party that can win," said Rich Tafel, executive director of Log Cabin Republicans. "The Republican nominee cannot win without these voters in November, and we will continue working to mobilize them from now until the GOP convention in Philadelphia."

The ads call Texas Governor George W. Bush (R) to task for a series of actions which have alienated crucial swing voters who have turned out in GOP primaries in unprecedented numbers this year, including his public refusal to meet with Log Cabin, statements that he would not appoint openly gay Republicans to his administration, his speech at Bob Jones University, and aligning himself closely with far-right leaders Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell.

"Governor Bush has to understand that he can't be a "uniter" until he addresses these issues that have alienated and angered so many Republicans and other crucial swing voters that the GOP must have in our column to win in November," said Tafel.

In a $20,000 initial media buy, the 60 second radio spot will begin running on news/talk format stations in California, New York and Massachusetts on March 4 and will begin running in other states around the country the following week. Log Cabin Republicans currently plans to run the ads nationwide through to the opening of the Republican National Convention on July 31.

I'm a Republican, and I'm sick and tired of Clinton and Gore.

I want the Republicans to win in November.

That's why I was happy to hear George W. Bush say he's a uniter, not a divider.

But then he said he would not meet with gay Republicans, and worse, he wouldn't hire them.

Then Bush went to Bob Jones University, a place that preaches intolerance against the Catholic Church, gays and minorities, and he aligned himself with Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell.

I'm sorry, that doesn't build the kind of Republican Party that wins elections.

Do we have to lose our third presidential race in a row, because our candidate has pandered to the far right?

We don't want to lose the White House to Clinton-Gore again. And we don't need our candidates pandering to the likes of Pat Robertson to lose it for us.

Let's make sure now that we can win in November. Let's build an inclusive party that can win.
