(New York, NY) – The members of the Board of Directors of the New York City Chapter of Log Cabin Republicans voted unanimously last night to endorse Mayor Mike Bloomberg for re-election in the November 2005 election. The Mayor earned the overwhelming support of the organization's membership following his appearance at a candidate forum in May where he pledged his continued support for the gay and lesbian community.

"In New York we are fortunate to have a Republican Party that earns our support by delivering results", said Christopher Taylor, President of the New York City Chapter. "Mayor Bloomberg is a shining example of a moderate Republican who is sensitive to gay and lesbian issues. We applaud his efforts to make our party more inclusive and pledge our full support until the November elections and through the four years that will follow."

"The Log Cabin Republicans represent the diversity within the Republican Party and within New York," said Mike Bloomberg. "I'm proud of the support that we've given each other over the last 4 years – and I'm proud of the work that our Administration has done with the gay community. Diversity is the essence of New York City and it is the essence of a strong political party. The motto of the Log Cabin Republicans could very well be the motto of our entire Administration: Inclusion Wins."

The New York City Log Cabin Republicans praised Mayor Bloomberg for his decision to extend pension benefits to same sex partners of City workers who are wed in places gay marriage is performed and his efforts to change State law to allow domestic partners to receive benefits as well. Under the Bloomberg administration, all domestic partnerships and marriages, whether between same- or opposite-sex couples, arranged in other jurisdictions are now recognized in New York City. Mayor Bloomberg has also shown his commitment to protecting the gay community by signing Executive Order 41 prohibiting City employees from inquiring about sexual orientation.

The New York City Chapter of Log Cabin Republicans is the local chapter of the nation's largest organization of Republicans who support fairness, freedom, and equality for gay and lesbian Americans. Log Cabin has state and local chapters nationwide, a full-time Washington office, and a federal political action committee working to build new alliances in the gay and lesbian community in the Republican Party.

"Mike Bloomberg has delivered more jobs, less crime, accountability for our schools, and a culture of respect for all New Yorkers. These are core Republican issues and the reason why the New York City Chapter is proud to be working to re-elect Mike Bloomberg this fall," concluded Patrick Guerriero, national President of the Log Cabin Republicans.
