Failure of the Super-Committee, Balanced Budget Amendment are Failures of 'Hope and Change'

(Washington, DC) - In the wake of the failed Super-Committee and vote on the Balanced Budget Amendment, Log Cabin Republicans call on Congress to restore confidence in America's leadership by returning to the table to enact necessary changes.

"It is an indictment of the President's 'hope and change' agenda that few Americans had any hope whatsoever that the Super-Committee would succeed in changing Washington's addiction to spending. Combined with the failure of the Balanced Budget Amendment, the voters have every right to be frustrated," said R. Clarke Cooper, Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director. "Republicans must re-double our efforts to fight for real spending cuts and tax reform. President Obama would like nothing more than to run against a "do nothing" Congress in 2012, blaming his own failures on conservatives. We can't let Democrats get away with it. The truth is, under Majority Leader Harry Reid the Senate hasn't passed an annual budget in three years. The House of Representatives has sent many pieces of bipartisan legislation intended to create jobs and address the budget, only to see them ignored. Americans are tired of the gridlock and the associated volatile economic environment. Serious solutions, such as preventing hikes on estate and gift taxes can help relieve the tax burden on family businesses and farms. It's time to go back to the table and get to work."
