Log Cabin Republicans Congratulates Redondo Beach Mayor Michael Gin for White House Gay Rights "Champion of Change Award"
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) congratulates longtime LCR member and Redondo Beach, California Mayor Michael Gin on receiving the "Harvey Milk Champions of Change" award at the White House today. Gin is an exemplary model for both the gay community and for the Republican Party. Serving the city of Redondo Beach as a City Councilman and in his current office as Mayor, Gin has proven a talented public servant, maintaining a balanced city budget and avoiding the bankruptcy problems so many California cities have struggled through.
"Log Cabin Republicans congratulates Mike Gin on receiving this prominent national distinction," said Log Cabin Republicans National Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo. "Whenever a longtime member and supporter of Log Cabin Republicans receives special recognition, it's something in which our entire membership can take pride, but Mr. Gin is especially deserving of today's accolades as an out, gay Republican elected official who exemplifies the best conservative ideals."
"Having served his community on City Council and as Mayor with distinction for over 16 years, Mike Gin is a role model for gays and lesbians seeking public office throughout California," added Log Cabin Republicans of California Chairman Charles T. Moran. "We are proud of Mike's service to Redondo Beach and the Republican Party. The example he created set the bar high for elected officials in local government in the Golden State, and for a more open, inclusive Republican Party."
