(WASHINGTON, DC) – Log Cabin Republicans today applaud the selection of State Senator Cheryl Jacques [D-MA] as the new executive director of the Human Rights Campaign.

"Cheryl Jacques is a proven leader for a challenging time," commented Log Cabin executive director Patrick Guerriero. "She is a strong and experienced choice to lead the Human Rights Campaign."

Guerriero and Jacques served together in the Massachusetts legislature during the 1990's building bipartisan support for legislation that expanded hate crimes legislation, created standby-guardianship proxies for the children of aids patients and protected gay and lesbian students in public schools. Both have been strong advocates for civil recognition and tax fairness for gay and lesbian families.

"Successful efforts to expand gay and lesbian civil rights and protect against anti-gay constitutional amendments in Massachusetts took bipartisan team work. I look forward to continuing our bipartisan work on the national stage at this historic time", added Guerriero.

"One of the central challenges facing gay and lesbian Americans in the years ahead is winning new allies in the Republican party to ensure fairness and equality. Log Cabin Republicans stand ready to work with Cheryl and HRC to achieve that critical mission", said Guerriero.

"Cheryl takes over the important work at HRC that Elizabeth Birch championed for so long. Elizabeth Birch deserves great credit for leaving a strong foundation for Cheryl and all of us who work for equality" concluded Guerriero.
