Log Cabin Responds to Re-Introduction of Anti-family Constitutional Amendment

Senate Should Concentrate on Winning War on Terror, Saving Social Security, and Reforming the Tax Code

(Washington, DC) – "There are tremendous opportunities for positive change in the 109th Congress. We urge Senators to avoid a repeat of the divisive culture war debate of 2004 caused by the anti-family Federal Marriage Amendment. There is a clear opening for real reform in the 109th Congress. We hope the U.S. Senate will join with the President to focus on winning the war on terror, saving Social Security, and reforming the tax code," said Log Cabin Republicans President Patrick Guerriero.

Guerriero makes those comments in response to the re-introduction of the anti-family Federal Marriage Amendment. In 2004, Log Cabin successfully led the conservative voices to defend the U.S. Constitution. "While Log Cabin is hopeful that the Senate will have a positive agenda for 2005, we will continue defending the U.S. Constitution and making the conservative case against an unnecessary and discriminatory amendment," concluded Guerriero. Last year, the anti-family marriage amendment failed to garner anywhere near the necessary two-thirds support in either the House or the Senate.
