Log Cabin Republicans Reaction to Trump's Call for Muslim Immigrant Ban

Washington, D.C. - Late yesterday, GOP presidential candidate Donald J. Trump called for a ban on all immigration by Muslims into the United States, including those Muslim Americans who might be living abroad. In response, Log Cabin Republicans President Gregory T. Angelo issued the following statement:

"As the head of an organization advocating for a more inclusive Republican Party, it is impossible to stand by in silence in the wake of Donald Trump's call for an absolute prohibition on Muslim immigration. Considering Mr. Trump's insistence that pursuit of a constitutional amendment banning marriage equality is futile as it would never be realized, we hope he likewise comprehends that his position advocating a carte-blanche ban on Muslim immigrants is equally fanciful.

"I regularly attended Marble Collegiate Church while I lived in Manhattan, during which time I had the honor of witnessing several 'Trialogue' sermons between the Senior Ministers representing the Christian perspective together with faith leaders of the Jewish and Muslim communities with the goal of showing there is more that unites us than divides us. It is a Christmastime tradition at Marble Church that continues to this day - one I hope Mr. Trump recalls considering his continued assertions of attendance at this historic pillar of the New York City religious community.

"Log Cabin Republicans remains committed to the eradication of radical Islamic extremism and believes it poses an existential threat to our culture and members of the gay community in particular, but inciting the politics of fear will not achieve those ends."
