Health Care Reform - Done Right
Log Cabin Republicans are in agreement with Americans when it comes to health reform
There is no debate that current government healthcare costs are unsustainable. Nearly 50 million Americans are uninsured and millions more are underinsured. The health outcomes in America lag behind other nations, despite the high spending we all experience. Unfortunately, as Democratic leaders on the Hill come together with the White House to merge reform proposals behind closed doors, few of America's health care problems will be solved. Democrats are more interested in a government take-over as opposed to practical, sustainable reform. Regardless of the specifics of the final Democratic plan, we know that it will raise taxes, increase the cost of health care, cause insurance premiums to rise, and it will do nothing to improve the quality of care that Americans receive.
Log Cabin Republicans calls on Democratic leaders on the Hill and at the White House to consider solid reform proposals that will preserve the market-place and promote competition. Provide Americans with a model that is sensible in how it covers those that are uninsured or underinsured. Further, Americans deserve a comprehensive design that includes reforms on medical malpractice. And, reform should maintain current and incentivize new efforts in research and innovation. Overall, Democrats and Republicans should operate in a strong bipartisan fashion around health reform and use the opportunity to reduce the federal deficit without raising taxes, increasing premiums and cutting vital services for Americans.
