The Time Has Come to Cut, Cap and Balance

(Washington, DC) - Log Cabin Republicans urge passage of the GOP "Cut, Cap and Balance" plan to combat the spending culture in Washington, DC.

"As Congress and the president grapple with the consequences of excessive government spending, the time has come to pass a balanced budget amendment as part of the plan to 'Cut, Cap and Balance,'" said R. Clarke Cooper, Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director. "The fact that we are confronted with the question of raising the debt ceiling beyond 14.3 trillion dollars is outrageous, and proves that Washington must be forced to do what every American family has to - live within its means. If Democrats want to raise the debt ceiling again, there has to be more than promises of change down the road. The balanced budget amendment may be the only way to put on the brakes on liberals' out-of-control spending before they run our economy right off a cliff."

The "Cut, Cap, and Balance" plan meets the criteria Speaker Boehner and Republicans laid out months ago for a debt limit proposal: it mandates spending cuts that exceed the debt increase, requires reforms that restrain future spending, and prevents job-crushing tax hikes on families and job creators.
