CEA Announces Groundbreaking Support for Log Cabin Republicans

Washington, DC and Arlington, VA - The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA®) is proud to announce its financial support of Log Cabin Republicans, becoming the first trade association to formally support the country's original and largest organization representing gay conservatives and allies who support fairness, freedom, and equality for all Americans. "I'm very proud of CEA's groundbreaking financial support for the Log Cabin Republicans, a decision welcomed by both our Executive Board and members of our staff," said Gary Shapiro, President and CEO, CEA. "Our visible announcement proves that trade associations want lawmakers and policies that recognize the economic value of hiring the best and brightest minds, regardless of sexual orientation."

"At Log Cabin Republicans, we take pride in being pro-business and pro-equality," said Log Cabin Republicans National Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo. "With its announcement of support for our organization today, CEA makes a dual statement: in order to grow our nation's economy, conservative principles must be championed; and in order to grow the GOP, the Republican Party needs to embrace equality for gay and lesbian Americans."

Additionally, the financial contribution means CEA is now the first technology group to formally support Log Cabin Republicans' National organization.

"If we're going to continue to be the world's leader in innovation moving forward, members of Congress and state legislators must understand that our businesses need to attract the best people available," said Shapiro. "Just as our current immigration policies inhibit efforts to keep international talent here in America, any policies seen as inhospitable to gay people will choke U.S. job creation and the economy as a whole."
