Election of Charles Djou Increases Republican Margin for Gay Core Issues Such as a Repeal of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' and Employment Non-Discrimination Act

(Washington, DC) – After the historic election of Congressman-Elect Charles Djou in Honolulu on Saturday, Log Cabin Republicans National Board Chairman Terry W. Hamilton issued the following statement:

"Log Cabin Republicans is proud to have endorsed the candidacy of Charles Djou for Congress. His commitment to repeal of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell', supporting the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, increased HIV/AIDS research initiatives and equality in domestic partnership benefits on the federal level show that a common-sense Republican can truly win the day, even in President Obama's home."

Charles Djou, a young Chinese-American from Hawaii, serves as a Captain in the Army Reserves and is a staunch opponent of the failed 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy, which prohibits gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military. Djou fought for government transparency in Hawaii, supports market-based healthcare reform and tort reform, and has never voted for a tax increase.
