Log Cabin Republicans of California Officially Chartered by California GOP
Sacramento, CA and Washington, D.C. - In an historic vote, the California Republican Party has voted to charter Log Cabin Republicans of California. The landslide 861-293 vote recognizes Log Cabin Republicans of California as an official affiliate of the state GOP.
"This is about working together to win elections in California," said John Musella, whose term as Chairman of Log Cabin Republicans of California began on the day of the vote. "Being officially recognized sends a strong signal that the Republicans' 'Big Tent' has room for everyone. Our chartering in California should serve as an example of how every Republican organization can stand proud and work together."
"This victory was a long time coming - the culmination of two decades of hard work by our predecessors," Log Cabin Republicans of California Immediate Past Chairman Charles Moran said. "On Sunday, the California Republican Party made it clear that they will fight to earn every vote in California, and Log Cabin Republicans is a partner in taking our message of limited government, individual responsibility and personal freedom to the gay community. While we may not agree 100 percent of the time, we have a home in the California Republican Party."
"Congratulations to the California Log Cabin Republicans on achieving formal recognition by the California Republican Party," California State Assemblyman Rocky Chávez stated. "It is imperative that a political organization has diverse membership, and the Log Cabin Republicans add depth to our party."
Log Cabin Republicans National Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo added:
"This tremendous victory was the result of years of effort by a tireless team of Log Cabin Republicans grassroots members and supporters, but Log Cabin Republicans of California Immediate Past Chairman Charles Moran deserves special commendation for his vision, diligence, and diplomacy during the chartering process. Log Cabin Republicans was founded in California in 1977 with the simple message that inclusion wins; now, all these years later, it is poetically fitting that the Republican Party of the Golden State makes history by formally recognizing the important role Log Cabin Republicans plays in broadening GOP appeal and securing Republican wins in California and across the country."
