Washington, D.C. - Log Cabin Republicans President Charles Moran released the below statement in response to President Biden's disappointing address to the United Nations General Assembly:

"President Trump pushed an historic and unprecedented campaign at the United Nations to decriminalize homosexuality around the world, calling out every country by name that makes being gay a crime. Sadly, President Biden addressed the U.N. today and tragically failed to mention the Decriminalization campaign at all.

"It's disappointing that the Biden Administration is abandoning Decriminalization as a top priority. Dozens of countries sitting in attendance for President Biden's speech in the UN General Assembly Hall still criminalize homosexuality, including some that still punish gay people with death. President Biden could have created an uncomfortable moment for those countries in attendance who criminalize us; instead, he prioritized applause over principle, which helps no one. America needs a President who cares more about progress than popularity on the world stage, and we're disappointed by President Biden's lack of courage.

"We also are very troubled by the silence of Secretary Pete Buttigieg. As the second openly gay Presidential Cabinet member, he has a responsibility to speak up. His silence on gays and lesbians being hunted down in Afghanistan and his inability to impact President Biden to prioritize Decriminalization at the UN is a growing problem."
