Meet Mike Kenn, New Fulton County Commission Chairman

The Georgia Log Cabin Republicans invite Metro Atlanta area residents to meet Mike Kenn, the new Fulton County Commission Chairman. The event will be held on Wednesday, March 3, from 7 until 9 p.m. at "Joe's on Juniper," a restaurant located at 1049 Juniper Street NE, Atlanta.

Mike Kenn was elected in November 1998 with tremendous support from Atlanta's lesbian and gay community. Both the Georgia Equality Project's Political Action Committee and the Georgia Log Cabin Republicans endorsed Kenn. Mike ran on a platform that includes equality for all and a commitment to equal protection under the law for gay men and women.

Mike's vision as chairman includes focusing on quality of life issues, reducing the highest property tax rate in Georgia, and updating the County's infrastructure and Land Use Plan. Kenn's control of $12 million in Ryan White AIDS funding and his promise to provide Domestic Partner Benefits for Fulton County employees are of particular interest to the gay and lesbian community.

Michael Brown, president of the Georgia Log Cabin Republicans said, "This event for Mike and his key staffers is a great way for the community to turn out and meet Mike, congratulate him on his victory, and let Mike know we are counting on his leadership. Mike will need to continue to build relationships with folks in our community to be successful. This event is a chance for that building to continue."

Mike Kenn has been a Fulton County resident since 1978 when he was the Atlanta Falcons' first round draft pick. He was an All-Pro selection three times and played in the Pro Bowl five consecutive times. Off of the field, Mike was the Falcons' representative to the NFL Players Association and was later elected to four consecutive two-year terms as president of that organization. Mike's commitment to community service has led him to work with such groups as TEAM Georgia, the March of Dimes, the Federation of the Blind, and the Atlanta Disabled Officers Fund. He and his wife Joanie have been married for 19 years. Together, they are raising two daughters, Lisa and Kristy.

Log Cabin requests a contribution of $25 to cover costs the event. Those making a contribution of $25 or more will receive two free beverage coupons.
